Description
This course is designed to provide elementary education majors with the knowledge base and instructional strategies needed to plan and implement a science-based reading program in grades pre-kindergarten through second grade. A structured literacy teaching approach that includes explicit, systematic, cumulative, and teacher-directed instruction will be emphasized. Included topics in this course will be aspects of cognition and behavior that affect reading, phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, and writing development. Early Field Experience is required. Must be taken concurrently with EDUC 333 and EDUC 335. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program.
