Description
The course is designed to provide elementary education majors with the knowledge base and instructional strategies needed to plan and implement a science-based reading program in grades 3-6. A structured literacy teaching approach that includes explicit, systematic, cumulative, and teacher-directed instruction will be emphasized. Included topics in this course will be aspects of cognition and behavior that affect reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This course will also focus on reading assessments and the major types of reading difficulties including dyslexia. Early Field Experience is required. Must be taken concurrently with EDUC 346. Pre-requisite: Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program.
